The RanchAssist™ Corral Cost Estimator is a standalone planning tool for livestock corrals and working facilities. It helps ranchers, landowners, builders, fabricators, and project teams organize the physical layout and cost assumptions behind a corral project before construction begins.

WHY IT EXISTS

Corral projects are rarely just a fence-footage problem. A practical estimate can involve multiple pens, alleys, gates, different fence systems, post spacing, terminal posts, concrete, a squeeze chute or other working equipment, welding, general labor, equipment rental, freight, tax, waste, and contingency.

Those inputs are often spread across sketches, supplier quotes, text messages, spreadsheets, and handwritten notes. Corral Cost Estimator brings them into one project so the user can see how a layout decision changes the bill of materials and the estimated total.

TWO WAYS TO PLAN

Quick Dimensions is designed for early-stage estimating. Add holding pens, sorting pens, crowd pens, alleys, tubs/crowd areas, loading lanes, trap pens, or custom areas and enter their dimensions. The estimator derives perimeter footage and builds a proportional facility schematic.

Plan Mode is designed for more spatial planning. Use the built-in scaled grid to draw pens and fence lines, place gates, add working-equipment markers, and identify existing structures. Geometry is converted into measured footage using the user-selected grid scale.

The two modes use the same underlying cost engine.

MATERIALS THAT MATCH THE PROJECT

The estimator supports continuous steel pipe, pipe + sucker rod, livestock panels, wood rails, wire for low-pressure areas, and a custom construction system. Users can edit post spacing, rail or strand count, panel length, material prices, line-post costs, and terminal-post costs.

Included values are planning examples only. RanchAssist does not claim live supplier pricing. Users should replace example values with current local quotes before making purchasing decisions.

POSTS, GATES, AND CONCRETE

Gate openings reduce installed fence footage and contribute gate-terminal requirements. Line posts are estimated from installed footage and the selected post spacing, while corner, end, and gate terminal posts remain separate.

For concrete, the estimator uses post-hole diameter, depth, and total post count to calculate volume. Users can then estimate bagged concrete using an editable bag yield and bag cost or use a ready-mix cost per cubic yard.

WORKING EQUIPMENT AND LABOR

Corral Cost Estimator can include user-priced working equipment such as a squeeze chute, headgate, alley sections, crowding tub, scale, loading chute or ramp, catwalk, and custom items.

Labor and jobsite assumptions can include welding hours, general labor, concrete labor, auger/skid-steer rental, freight or delivery, other equipment costs, tax, material waste/overage, and contingency.

AN ESTIMATE YOU CAN AUDIT

The result is more than a single total. RanchAssist generates an itemized bill of materials, project subtotals, estimated total cost, cost per installed linear foot, and cost per pen. The Calculation Details view exposes the major formulas and assumptions so users can understand how the estimate was produced.

SESSION-FIRST BY DESIGN

Corral Cost Estimator does not require a RanchAssist account. Active project work may be protected in browser sessionStorage to reduce accidental loss during the current session. RanchAssist does not use localStorage as permanent project storage.

For long-term continuation, users can save a local RanchAssist .ra project file. The .ra file preserves the editable project state—including layout data, gates, construction assumptions, concrete settings, working equipment, labor/cost assumptions, and notes—so the project can be reopened later.

Saved project files are user-controlled local files. They are not RanchAssist cloud storage.

EXPORT AND SHARE

Users can export a CSV bill of materials, export the facility plan as PNG, print or save a PDF, copy a text summary, or email an estimate through the Google Apps Script deployment. These outputs are separate from the .ra project file used to resume editing.

BUILT FOR WORKING CONDITIONS

RanchAssist uses a practical, restrained interface designed for phones, tablets, laptops, and printed estimates. The product emphasizes clear units, compact controls, visible assumptions, thin structural lines, high contrast, and accessible touch targets rather than decorative ranch-themed styling.

A PLANNING TOOL, NOT A GUARANTEE

Corral Cost Estimator is intended for planning and estimating. It does not certify structural engineering, construction safety, cattle-flow design, code compliance, site suitability, labor productivity, supplier pricing, or final installed cost.

Real projects should be verified with qualified contractors, fabricators, engineers, suppliers, and other professionals as appropriate to the project and location.
